Martini Effect
by Zara Raab
When I pass a solitary
day in writing, a certain
calm falls over me,
like the eerie elation
known to deep sea divers
scissor-kicking Sargassum
or the deadly rapture
of pilots tasting a freedom
science dubs the Martini Effect.
Some savvy poets have a knack
for whatever’s on everyone’s
radar, but others of us shun
society altogether:
our Far Out is really very far.
