The photographs below and throughout this issue come from a collection that belonged to Ed Sargent, who was a friend of my grandparents on my mother’s side. He was a set engineer and photographic pioneer who worked in the Hollywood film industry in the 1920s and 30s. He was obsessed with locomotives and designed and built fully functioning miniature railroads for Walt Disney and others, as well as sets for many films.
